Dr. Arash Momeni is Associate Professor of Surgery, the Ryan-Upson Scholar, and Director of Clinical Outcomes Research in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University. He graduated magna cum laude from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and completed residency training in Plastic and Hand Surgery at the University of Freiburg. He subsequently pursued a second residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University, followed by a fellowship in Advanced Reconstructive Microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Momeni is recognized for his innovative approaches to post-mastectomy breast reconstruction, including hybrid reconstruction – a combination of autologous tissue and implants – and flap neurotization techniques designed to enhance sensory recovery.
An internationally recognized expert in clinical outcomes research and evidence-based medicine, Dr. Momeni has authored over 240 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to numerous textbook chapters in plastic surgery. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and serves as Associate Editor of Annals of Plastic Surgery. He also serves on the editorial boards of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Microsurgery and the European Journal of Plastic Surgery, and is a peer reviewer for several leading journals in the field.
